Description
Navigating ADHD medication can feel like a maze of medical jargon, trial and error, and conflicting advice. That’s why I created A Guide to ADHD Medication – to give you straightforward, practical information so you can feel confident in managing ADHD with medication. This guide is designed specifically for women and mothers who want clear, no-nonsense answers about ADHD medication – without the fluff.
What You’ll Find in This Guide:
- An Overview of ADHD Medication Options: Learn about the different types of ADHD medications available, including stimulant and non-stimulant options. I break down the common medications like Ritalin, Vyvanse, Concerta, and Intuniv, along with their benefits, potential side effects, and how they work in the body.
- Finding the Right Dose and Medication: Discover that finding the right medication and dosage isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. I explain the key factors to consider, such as how your body absorbs and metabolises the medication, and why you might need to experiment with different options to find the one that works best for you.
- Monitoring How Well Medication is Working: Get practical advice on how to track your or your child’s response to medication. Learn about common signs that a medication is working well and signs it might not be the right fit.
- Managing Sensory Sensitivity and Emotional Changes: Discover what to do if ADHD medication makes you more sensory sensitive, withdrawn, or teary. Learn how ADHD stimulants can sometimes reveal underlying Autistic traits, and why it’s important to work closely with your healthcare provider to ensure the right balance in your treatment plan.
- Pharmacogenomic Testing: Learn how genetic testing can help predict how your body will respond to ADHD medication.
- Solutions to Common Medication Problems: I offer strategies for tackling common medication issues, such as dealing with unwanted side effects, finding the right time to take your medication, and managing interactions with other medications or supplements.
- Tips for Working with Your Practitioner: Understand how to communicate effectively with your psychiatrist or paediatrician. Learn how to describe your experiences, ask the right questions, and collaborate with your healthcare provider to find the optimal medication plan.
- Jane’s FAQs: Read through my answers to the most frequently asked questions about ADHD medication. From side effects and managing medication during PMS to what to do if the first medication doesn’t work – these FAQs cover it all with real-life insights and advice.
Why I Wrote This Guide:
After receiving my own ADHD diagnosis and navigating the challenges of finding the right medication, I realised just how confusing this journey can be, especially for women and mothers. I want to make the process easier and less overwhelming for you by sharing everything I’ve learned, both personally and professionally, about ADHD medications.
Final Thoughts:
You deserve to feel better, function better, and have a treatment plan that actually works for you. Finding the right ADHD medication isn’t about “fixing” anything – it’s about supporting your brain in a way that makes life easier.

FAQ
We’ve already tried meds and it didn’t go well. What’s different about this?
I’ve been there – where nothing seems to work, and every appointment just adds more confusion. This guide isn’t here to push medication or tell you what to do. It gives you the context that usually gets left out: timing, dose, sensory issues, emotional regulation, and how ADHD meds can hit differently when you’re also Autistic. It’s what I needed back when I thought I was the problem – and what I now use to help others advocate better, with less second-guessing.
I’m already maxed out. What if I don’t even finish it?
That’s exactly why I wrote it the way I did – so you don’t have to read it all. You can skip straight to the parts that match what’s happening in your world right now – like afternoon crashes, medication fatigue, or working out if it’s even worth continuing. There’s no pressure to get through it all. One page might be enough.
How do I know if the medication is actually working - or if I just want it to be?
It’s hard to know – especially when you’re already tired and second-guessing everything. I’ve included a list of signs that aren’t usually talked about (like emotional crashes, impulsivity, overstimulation) plus ways to track changes without turning it into another overwhelming task. You don’t need a perfect record – you just need to notice what’s shifting.
I’m not ready for meds. Is this still useful?
Yes – 100%. You don’t need to be pro-medication to find this helpful. Maybe you’re still figuring it out. Maybe you’ve said no for now but want to understand the options better. This guide won’t push you in either direction – it’s just here to help you feel more informed and more in control of whatever you decide.
Can this help with my child’s medication too?
Absolutely. I’ve included what worked (and didn’t) in my own family – things like how we adjusted Intuniv dosing, when I knew something wasn’t right, and how I tracked what was happening during the come-down. If you’re parenting a kid who seems more dysregulated after meds than before – I’ve been there. This guide walks through it with you.
Will I get access to future updates?
Yes – always. If I expand this guide or add anything new, you’ll get the updated version automatically. No chasing it, no extra payments. Once you have it, it’s yours to keep and keep current.
What if I regret buying it?
If it’s not what you needed or the timing isn’t right, just send me an email – I’ll sort it. I don’t want this to be another thing that makes your week harder. But I do believe this guide can genuinely make things clearer – because it’s the resource I wish existed when I was stuck, overwhelmed, and trying to work out if it was just me.
